TRANSFER TARGETS

Full name: Adam Johnson

Birth date:1987/07/14

Height: 175cm

Weight: 66kg

Preferred foot: Left
Nationality: England

Johnson has fallen out of favour with Roberto Mancini at the Etihad this season. He has struggled for a regular position despite some promising cameo performances. Stewart Downing has had a dreadful season, and Liverpool clearly need to add more width to their attack. If Liverpool were able to steal Johnson away, it would be an absolute coup. He is one of the brightest talents in Britain who would drastically improve the current Liverpool side.

Full name:A. Hernanes de Carvalho A. Lima

Birth date:1985/05/29

Height:180cm

Weight:76kg

Preferred foot: Right

Nationality:Brazil

Hernanes has still been a consistent performer for Lazio this season. He is a world-class playmaker who can operate either behind the strikers or deeper in midfield. Hernanes could be had for a reported £16 million. He could be the creative player Liverpool so desperately need to spark their lethargic frontline into life.

Full name:Marco Reus

Birth date:1989/05/31

Height:180cm

Weight:70kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Germany

22-year-old Marco Reus is the latest young product off the German conveyor belt. Germany's decision to focus on developing young talent has again paid dividends with Reus, who is leading his current club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, from relegation candidates last season to a potential UEFA Champions League spot. Reus is an attacking midfielder in a similar mold to Thomas Müller—able to play both wide and through the middle. But Reus has a better eye for the goal than Müller, having scored 11 goals in 15 league appearances this season.

Full name:Mehdi Benatia

Birth date:1987/04/17

Height:188cm

Weight:80kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Morrocco

Jamie Carragher is getting old, and with it unclear whether Daniel Agger will return to his past form, Liverpool could do with a new hard-man centre-back. While Coates is available, the 2012-2013 season is one which involves European football. Liverpool should sign Benatia on the cheap now, because injuries are almost bound to affect the defense. Mehdi Benatia, the 24-year-old, could be the player to link up with either Skrtel or Coates when Agger is injured. The hard-as-nails defender has been key for Udinese this season, who are just ahead of AS Roma in the last Europa League spot in Serie A. His tough-tackling approach has seen his side concede the third-fewest amount of goals in the league, with intimidation factor aplenty in the Morocco international. If Liverpool are serious about their top-four ambitions and want to maintain their defensive efficiency next term, they could do with Mehdi Benatia.

Full name:Javier Martínez Aginaga

Birth date:1988/09/02

Height:190cm

Weight:81kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Spain

Javi Martinez is Athletic Bilbao's key player. Whether he's operating in central defense or defensive midfield, the highly sought Spaniard keeps the team ticking over to control the game. The rest are quality players, but they are peripherals in the side. Without Martinez, Athletic Bilbao find it a lot tougher. Martinez is valuable to Liverpool for his ability to anchor the midfield and keep a lid on the amount of penetration the opposition can offer. Martinez fits the bill of the type of player the Reds are seeking—young, excellent resale value, very good technical ability, can hit long passes as well as short passes and is great defensively. And positionally, he's perfect, as the Reds are in search of a top-quality holding midfielder to play alongside or even replace Lucas Leiva. With two great holding midfield options, Kenny Dalglish will have the tactical flexibility he hasn't been afforded this season. He can play Steven Gerrard in a more attacking position—lust like Rafa did when he engineered the deadly Gerrard-Torres combo.

Full name:Welliton Soares de Morais

Birth date:1986/10/22

Height:175cm

Weight:76kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Brazil

Another Brazilian plying his trade in Russia, Welliton has scored 57 times in just under 100 appearances for Russian side Spartak Moscow, the small forward is versatile and can be used as a winger, given the fact that he possesses an astounding burst of pace. He would suit a 4-3-3 formation, playing anywhere in the top line, or anywhere behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 system.

Full name:Seydou Doumbia

Birth date:1987/12/31

Height:178cm

Weight:74kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Cote d’Ivoire

In the Russian campaign so far he's got 33 goals from 41 league matches, as well as 45 goals in 58 games in all competitions. That's a goalscoring ratio of 0.8 goals per game in the Russian Premier League, and a 0.77 goals per game ratio overall this season. Considering most managers dream of signing strikers in the 0.50-0.60 ratio, it's no surprise Doumbia's ratio means his club values him at around £20 million. He can play as a center striker, giving Suarez the chance to play at second/supporting striker.

Full name:Jesús Navas González

Birth date:1985/11/21

Height:170cm

Weight:60kg

Preferred foot:Right

Nationality:Spain

Jesus Navas is the best Out and Out winger in Spain and has electric, lightening pace/speed and is very skillful, holds width and stays on touchline and has quality delivery from out wide. He is a better player than Mata and a lot quicker and the pace he has would terrify teams and keep them pegged back, Jesus Navas is better winger and would offer club a lot more. Jesus Navas should be brought to club as Right winger

Full name:Kevin Strootman

Birth date:1990/02/13

Height:186cm

Weight:78kg

Preferred foot:Left

Nationality:Netherlands

Strootman skippers PSV and has kept Manchester City’s enforcer Nigel de Jong out of the Dutch team. He’s seen as a key man in their bid for Euro 2012 glory. The 22-year-old is part of another blossoming generation of Dutch talent, but crucially for van Maarwijk, he brings qualities his side don't already have, but need, in the battle to edge Spain's global dominance. A six foot one inch box-to-box central midfielder, Strootman is a former attack minded prospect, now honing his defensive skills, hoping to break up the static and aggressive midfield shield of Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel. The duo are effective, but against Spain's brainy schemers, they were forced to turn to brawn - and still lost. Strootman is technically a much better match for the likes of Xavi, Andrés Iniesta and Xabi Alonso, but because he's also at home with the physical side of the game, has abilities than can be adapted to all situations. Add to a solid understanding of when to use his good upper body strength to best effect to a cultured and clever style whilst in possession, and you have a player who's superb in keeping his side ticking over. Furthermore, unlike the more sluggish de Jong and van Bommel, he opts to shift the ball quickly and effectively, picking often the easiest but good options in good time, and keeping the pace flowing. But it's not only simple stuff that Strootman does well, his magic wand of a left foot is a dangerous weapon from a deeper role, giving him more time to pick defensive locks, and space to show off his accurate long range shooting ability.

  • Pick one and call it a day, we need to stop buying players in bunches and let our new team build chemistry.

If we keep bringing in new players we will never improve, it takes the best part of two seasons for a team with 9 new players to gel properly.  Remember Man City when they bought a hat full of superstars and failed to win anything in their first season together.

Be happy with what we have! it could be a lot worse.

  • good picks..most of them realistic.

I like Johnson, Welliton/Doumbia,  and Martinez (most doubtful on the list)...with Aquaman coming back (hopefully staying and playing 30 games for us next season) we won't need Strootman...plus I want to see Coady burst through in 2-3 years. Strootman may hinder that slightly...SELL ADAM
