I remember when KD first became Manager in there wisdom Chairman John Smith and the boards had our most successful Manager Bob Paisley help and advise him which was a master stroke. When he resigned first time around was in that period that football started to change the power of the Boot Room was gone and I believe the changes made passed KD by showing in the poor buys this season. Recently supporters have been blaming Comolli (me included) when in retrospect KD himself later informed us they were his signings if that is indeed true.
The Fenway policy seems to indicate you go by players average performance and age before you attempt to buy mainly because some sort of price can be returned on the initial outlay. Whilst this may work fine in there other concern Baseball and has been relevantly successful I dont believe it is feasable thinking as regards Football and is no guarentee of success.
One trophy achieved and a second a definate possibiltythis season could not be termed a failure with the exception of League position The indifference to possibly loaning or buying a goal predator to finish the chances created and the constant chopping and changing with team selection has resulted in our poorest points total since relegation in 53/54 which so many supporters have reluctantly pointed out. Our runs in both Cups has seemingly masked the situation as the League should always be our main priority.
But what KD has done after fan power helped disgracfully in my opinion get Gentleman Roy Hodgson sacked is to unite the club. The biggest problem KD has now is a lot of so called supporters demand success or the sack which is becoming a problem for genuine supporters to understand. My own opinion is as long as we play attractive football and in each season we are there with a least a shout any trophys won are a bonus I would give KD successful or not in Managerial terms one more season then move him upstairs and go for a young progressive Manager.
Although there are a number of you Managers at clubs making a name for themselves my choice would be Roberto Martinez who when at Swansea encouraged attractive attacking football and on limited finances has done the same at Wigan under difficult circumstances. He is capable of handling pressure as Wigans plight in this and previous seasons has shown and also has a good rapport with the media with some guidance from above i believe he could make Liverpool into a force again.
